Why We Build Everything Around RGB
Red, green, blue. Three channels, one image. Why the smallest unit of a screen became the whole of our philosophy.
Every image you have ever seen on a screen is a lie agreed upon by three colours. Red, green, blue — fired in tiny, disciplined bursts, tricking your eye into a sunset. We named the studio after that trick, because it’s also how good creative works: a thousand small, exact decisions that, from a distance, feel like one effortless feeling.
The sub-pixel as a design principle
Zoom far enough into any screen and the image dissolves into a grid of three lights. Not a sunset — just red, green, and blue, on or off, brighter or dimmer. The whole illusion of photography, cinema, and design on a screen rests on that grid being exactly right.
We treat every project the same way. The unit matters. The kerning on a single title card. The half-stop on one face in a crowd. The weight of the paper a photograph is printed on. Obsess over the unit, and the whole image lands. Get sloppy at the unit, and no amount of polish at the top will save it.
Why “winning” is the right verb
Plenty of studios make beautiful work. Beautiful is table stakes. We say winning because beauty that doesn’t move anything is decoration, and we are not decorators.
A film wins when people watch it to the end and feel something they didn’t have words for. A book wins when it gets gifted instead of shelved. A campaign wins when the acquisition cost drops and the founder stops having to explain the brand. We tie every craft decision to an outcome, because the outcome is the only honest measure of whether the craft was any good.
How RGB shows up in the process
The metaphor isn’t a logo we slapped on. It’s a working method.
- In the grade, we think in channels. Move the blue and you’ve moved the mood; lift a single warm key and you’ve told the viewer where home is.
- In design systems, we build emissive — colour as light against black, the way a screen actually behaves — instead of ink on white.
- In motion, channel separation is a tool: split the image, let it glitch, then let it recombine into something clean. Controlled distortion that resolves is the most honest way to show technical control.
It even shows up in how we run this website. The hero you landed on is a real WebGL shader splitting an image into its red, green, and blue channels and putting it back together as your cursor moves. We didn’t fake it with a video. We engineered it, because the medium is part of the message.
The promise
So here’s the whole philosophy, compressed to its smallest unit:
