Lalitaditya: Sun of Kashmir — cover

The film

An animated epic on the king they called the Alexander of India — built before it was pitched.

The brief

Lalitaditya is a 3D-animated historical feature in development on Lalitaditya Muktapida, the 8th-century king of Kashmir. It is fiction drawn from the historical record — the reign, the campaigns and the geopolitics of 8th-century Kashmir, told as drama — developed in partnership with Koshurwood Movie Studios in the United States.

The approach

There is no footage of 8th-century Kashmir and nothing standing that can be dressed and shot. 3D animation is the medium that can build the period at the scale the story asks for — cities, courts, campaigns, terrain — within a workable budget. The film sits in an extended research phase, with the historical account worked through before the screenplay is locked: drama built on the record, not the record retrofitted to a drama.

The trailer as proof

An animated historical epic developed across two countries is difficult to pitch on paper. So we didn’t pitch it on paper — we built a section of it. The spec trailer has been shown at three international festivals: Official Selection at the 13th Noida International Film Festival 2026; Official Selection at the Berlin Lift-Off Film Festival 2026; Semi-Finalist at the San Francisco Arthouse Short Festival. Each jury saw only the trailer — no script, no pitch.

In development

Research, script and design continue. Further detail is held back while the film is in development.
