Modasamskritam

Some years ago the Sanskrit scholar Dr. Varsha Sharda produced Modasamskritam in audio form — kid-friendly Sanskrit songs that teach the language experientially, the way children actually acquire languages: rhythm and repetition doing the work that declension tables do badly. Samskrita Bharati’s USA and Canada chapters backed a global project to bring that work to the present generation, and we’re building it.

We take the existing songs and create state-of-the-art 3D animation for each — updating the series and making it more accessible to children of the present age. The production is a global collaboration, bringing 3D artists and Sanskrit scholars to the same table.

Sanskrit is studied enormously more often than it is spoken. Samskrita Bharati’s conviction is pedagogical: the language fails to stick because it is taught as a grammatical system to be decoded rather than a language to be used. Songs are the oldest fix for that — and children are the audience where the difference shows fastest.
